Wouldn’t the world be more fun if we had an American Spirit Week, like the week before Halloween? Or even a World Spirit Week. It would be like homecoming week in high school, except that the whole country or world would have to dress up. Who says we have to grow all the way up? Who says when we reach a certain age we have to start stifling the child within? Life would be a whole lot more enjoyable if it was okay for the adults to cut loose sometimes too… in a safe way. Part of what is wrong with this country, and the world as a whole, is that we are so gosh-darn serious all the time. I know life is a serious matter, but that doesn’t mean that we have to treat it seriously all the time. It’s time to let lose! It is time to have fun!
It is true that here in America we have freedom of choice. Dress codes in places of businesses take away some of that freedom. Rules take away a lot of that freedom. But… isn’t there a saying, “Rules are made to be broken”? Isn’t that practically a proverb in this country? It totally is, in my opinion. Another proverb: “All work and no play make Jack a dull boy.” Who’s Jack? Everybody. EVERY. SINGLE. BODY. And considering we are a world of more than 6 billion people, that is a lot of dullness.
American Spirit Week would be the week before Halloween. Starting tomorrow. Instead of being only 5 days a week, American Spirit Week/World Spirit Week would be SEVEN days a week. And then on actual Halloween, people can come to work in costume.
Sunday – All-Country Dress up Day. This would be so that the people who go to church would have the proper attire. I imagine little boys and girls running around in little jackets and suits and dresses. Parents in adult versions of these.
Monday – Sports or College Gear Day. People could wear jeans/sweatpants and sweatshirts to work… as long as the sweatshirts have team logos on them, or a college sweatshirt.
Tuesday – Favorite TV Character Day. Yup. You guessed it. Dress up as your favorite TV character. I know who I’d be! Who? Why, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, of course. 🙂
Wednesday – Inner Child Day – Wear an outfit that you would have worn when you were a child. Men – messy hair is a must! Women – pigtails or braids. Carry around a doll or teddy bear. Or some other toy.
Thursday – Superhero/Cartoon Day – Dress as your favorite superhero, or cartoon character, or create your own.
Friday – State/Country Color Day. Dress up in your state’s official colors (or country’s). Washington is dark green and yellow. Huh. Maybe green cords and my yellow peace sign hoodie? 🙂 Or maybe a red, blue and white ensemble.
Saturday – Animal Day. Would it be too much to ask people to bring their pets to work? Oh, it would? Ah. I can just see it… utter pandemonium. Okay, well, you can dress up as your favorite animal or just pain your faces with face paint to resemble an animal of your choice. Or just wear casual clothes and an animal nose. You can get them really cheap at the dollar store.
