Kony 2012 – He’s going down

Yes, I know this video is 30 minutes long, but please watch it.  Joseph Kony kidnaps children and makes them over into rebellious soldiers.  To date, he has stolen an estimated 66,000 children to fight for the Lord’s Resistance Army, and that is not including the 2,000,000 people his movement has affected, displaced, and scattered.  Think of the families.  Think of the little brothers and sisters who have watched their older siblings be gunned down.  Like Jacob in the video.  No child should ever have to experience that.  These children do not have childhoods at all – they are brutally forced to grow up long before they should.

What they said in the video is true:  if this happened in North America, it would be all over the news.  As it should be.  Joseph Kony is an terrorist, plain and simple.  He’s just horrible.  He’s not working for any force of good at all – he can call it Lord’s Resistance Army, he can call it whatever he wants, but it doesn’t change the fact that it is evil.

The organization who made this video are going to try to stop him this year.  Maybe I shouldn’t say try.  Failure is not an option here, not when children’s lives are at stake.  There is a chance to do real good here, and I pray the plan to capture Kony doesn’t backfire. Last October, President Obama authorized the deployment of approximately 100 troops to central Africa. They will help regional forces “remove from the battlefield” Joseph Kony and senior LRA leaders. “Although the U.S. forces are combat-equipped, they will only be providing information, advice, and assistance to partner nation forces, and they will not themselves engage LRA forces unless necessary for self-defense,” Obama said in a letter to Congress.
